Cone-Bottom Tanks vs. Flat-Bottom Tanks

Often, cone-bottom tanks and flat-bottom tanks will come in similar sizes, capacities, and colours. These tanks are typically used to store water, chemicals for agricultural purposes, and liquid feed. So how do you know what you should choose if they're so similar? We break down a few key things to keep in mind when deciding between the two. Naturally, this is not an exhaustive list - you should always bring any concerns or unique problems to one of our staff if you're still unsure! We're happy to help you choose your next plastic tank.

Cone-Bottom Tanks

Cone-Bottom tanks: PROS

  1. Typically easy to bottom fill

  2. The sloped base means you'll get 100% drainage every time - no wasted product/liquids that could be experienced with a flat-bottom tank

  3. Dome top, flat top, or open top options offered

  4. 55 - 8250 USG capacity options - huge variety of selection

Cone-Bottom tank: CONS

  1. Extra cost needs to be incurred due to stand and hardware requirements.

  2. Cannot be installed on just any surface - typically needs to be installed on concrete

  3. More difficult to manage and move

Flat-Bottom Tanks

Flat-Bottom Tanks: PROS

  1. Quicker and easier to install than a cone-bottom tank

  2. Less costly than a cone-bottom tank (no stand or additional hardware to purchase).

  3. Easily moved

  4. Doesn't require a concrete base - can be installed on a wider variety of bases

  5. Dome top, flat top, or open top options offered

  6. 12 - 15000 USG capacity options - huge variety of selection

Flat-Bottom Tanks: CONS

  1. Liquid/materials will not fully drain from the tank

  2. More difficult to clean due to lack of full drainage

Many of these pros and cons also depend on the size of tank you're looking for and the application of the tank. We always recommend using lists like these to help narrow down your selection, but to contact us for advice if you're having trouble deciding, or if you need more information.
