Why You Need a Tank Screen

Gotten started with rainwater harvesting or collection recently? No matter what you're using this water for, a tank inlet screen is an essential component of your system and something that gets easily overlooked!

What does a tank screen do?

Tank screens provide an additional layer of protection for your water from leaves and other debris. While your tank should already be fitted with an appropriate rain head and other accessories like a downspout or first flush diverter, the tank screen provides the final barrier to prevent things like small pests, leaves, animal droppings, and other debris from entering the tank.

Where does it go?

The tank screen can be installed at the entry point of the collected water to the tank. This means that water has typically already been collected via rooftop/gutter and fed through a rain head and piping (see photos). Tank screens are very easy to install, monitor, and clean; since they sit at the top of your tank, you can easily check for debris and clean out the tank screen easily in just a few minutes.

How can you get one?

Tank screens come in a variety of sizes, so your first step is to determine what size fits your tank opening. Tank screens can be purchased from BARR through several channels: (1) If you know exactly what you need, you can browse our inlet screens on Amazon.
