Rain Barrel/Collection Container
The first component you'll need is a receptacle for water collection. Depending on how much you want to spend, where you're placing the tank, and how much water you want to collect, there are a wide variety of options. For residential systems, starting with barrels that are between 50-150 US gallons is a good option if you're not sure how much water you'll be using. This barrel is available in 80 USG capacity and features an attractive, neutral colour. This is a great option for those concerned about the aesthetics of their rain harvesting setup, but who still want to take advantage of a practical collection system. After you've selected your collection receptacle, the next step is to connect your rain barrel to a downpipe in order to start collecting rainwater. This requires a connection to the downpipe to divert the water flow into the rain barrel, and ideally a filter to help get rid of large debris like leaves and sticks. There are several options available, depending on how much time and money you want to devote to the setup and installation - the following options are a basic setup that is great if you're just getting started with your system and need a quick install.
Speedy Downpipe Adapter
A great option if you're short on time and need a quick fix. This small add-on is an extremely quick and easy way to get a filter + diverter that is simple to install and start using. This quick connector piece is suitable for up to 860 square feet, and is compatible with round piping anywhere from 2.7" - 4.7". Rapido Quattro Downpipe Adapter
Another adapter with a quick installation time, this downpipe adapter is similar to the speedy with one notable exception - this product can be rotated 360° so that the container can be positioned to the left or right of the downpipe. The Rapido Quattro is compatible with square down spouts measuring 2" x 3" and the connection seal and core drill are included! These are also currently in stock at BARR.
